Heroes @ Hansom Hall is the exciting pop up venue for Leicester Comedy Festival in the old Methodist chapel off Belvoir St (Which will have Brewdog beers on tap until the early hours).
Heroes is an exciting new promoter, set up to give artist friendly deals – Set the Artist Free! They are promoting 69 shows from over 30 different performers throughout the festival.
For the last three years Heroes have made a stand against pay to play that is rife in Comedy at the Edinburgh Fringe and last year one of Heroes’ shows – Adrienne Truscott’s Asking for It: A One-Lady Rape About Comedy Starring Her Pussy and Little Else! – was rewarded with one of the highest comedy honours – a Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award – making us the smallest venue ever to receive one.
The line-up includes:
Brian Gittins – star of Ricky Gervais’ Derek
Doug Segal – the most exciting mentalist there is
Lynn Ruth Miller – 80 year old cabaret star and winner of last years TOAST cabaret award
Phil Kay – the legendary comedians comedian
Devvo – the internet phenomenon whos shows last year were so packed they were declared a fire hazard
Simon Donald – one of the creators of Viz magazine
Tim Fitzhigham – the only man to have rowed across the channel in a bath tub
And Bob Slayer – born in Leicestershire, Bob has toured the world with people like Snoop Dogg, The Bloodhound Gang, Iggy Pop before turning to Comedy and winning awards (Malcolm Hardee Award for Comic Originality and the Bizarre Alternative Comedy Hero)
“Fringe veteran Bob Slayer, the absurdist storytelling performer, promoter and spirit of the fringe…” The Guardian
“An eccentric promoter who in PWYW has found a new financial model that really works for acts…” The Scotsman
