The Guardian
Join the multi-award winning Matt Richardson as he embarks on his eagerly anticipated first national tour of his fast-paced, high-energy stand-up debut solo show ‘Hometown Hero’, beginning in Borden on 13th September 2013.
From winning ‘Best New Show’ at Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival on its first ever outing, ‘Hometown Hero’ explores Matt’s comical tales of his family, friends and nosebleeds, revealing a hilarious insight into his life at home in a fish-bowl town. Finding that the people surrounding him do not care about what others think of them, he looks to find others with the same mind-set and sets out to ensure his brother has the same outlook on life. Sidesplittingly energetic, the show is not one to miss.
Beginning his career at just 18 in 2009, Richardson has established himself as the hottest and most exciting act on the comedy circuit and has won many awards for his lively and confessional style. He has performed at various comedy festivals such as Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. He presents Showcase Live, a bi-monthly music night with up and coming bands playing alongside the likes of JLS and Jessie J. His Radio and TV appearances include Russell Kane’s Whistle Stop Tour (BBC Radio 2), World’s Greatest Bodyshockers (E4), Geordie Shore Awards (MTV) and 50 Greatest & Funniest Moments of 2012 (Channel 4)
“A likely lad who has all the attributes to score big with the youth market – Richardson could very well be the comedy star of the future” The Guardian
“His 2013 debut tour is definitely one for the diary’” Three Weeks
“Confident and engaging delivery… at just 19 there are bags of potential here.” Chortle
“Frantic… gave a confident and well-structured set” The Stage
“A whirling ball of talent, energy and intelligent observational comedy who spoke with great skill and affection of his family and his experiences. He comes across as a man who could read the phonebook and make it funny, but instead of painting by numbers his comedy is sharp, strong and very impressive.” Off-Beat Magazine
