A monthly comedy night where comedians finally get to try out all the material that they always thought was too niche, too nerdy, too specialist to ever do in public will take place on Wednesday 24th April 2013 at The Black Heart in Camden.
Matthew Crosby, one third of the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award nominated sketch group Pappy’s and fresh from a national tour, BBC Radio 2 New Comedy Award winner Angela Barnes, Perrier Best Newcomer Wil Hodgson, Hackney Empire and Chortle Award nominee Mark Stephenson as well as Dane Baptiste, Mae Martin, Oh Standfast, Anna Freyberg, Catie Wilkins and Fin Taylor will give the audience the opportunity to hear what they have always wanted to make jokes about and find out what specialist subject the comedians are all obsessed by!
Comperes Steve Cross, founder of Bright Club and Science Showoff as well as being named one of the U.K.’s top science comedians by The Independent On Sunday, and critically acclaimed stand-up and journalist Marc Burrows will introduce an astounding line-up of the U.K.’s top comic talent.
At previous Specialist Subject gigs we’ve had impassioned arguments for veganism from Sara Pascoe, a dissection of teenage fandom from Elis James, the post-2002 cinematic work of Stevan Seagal examined by Thom Tuck, the mechanics of horse- breeding from Aisling Bea, a history of mugging from Simon Hickson, one half of children’s television legendary duo Trev and Simon, a critical literary analysis of Mr Men from Ivo Graham and loads more niche sets.
Sara Shulman, who is one of the Specialist Subject promoters, said of the gig: “Specialist Subject is a fantastic gig that comedians have loved performing at and audiences have loved watching. A lot of the sets have been written especially and only for this gig, which makes it a unique experience for everyone involved.”
