
Steve Kaplan’s ‘Comedy Intensive’ Returns to London
Hollywood’s top comedy screenwriting tutor teaching 2-day Masterclass in London, 25-26 April.
Steve Kaplan, one of the film industry’s most respected and sought-after experts on comedy, will be in the UK teaching his 2-day ‘Comedy Intensive’ Masterclass on the 25th & 26th April at Birkbeck University, London.
The class is being presented by Raindance, one of the UK’s leading film training providers, and aims to provide budding and experienced screenwriters with the tools and knowledge they need to write a successful comedy screenplay. On Day 1, students will explore the ‘hidden tools’ of comedy, including the difference between ‘funny’ and ‘comic’ and the four common elements of jokes. Day 2 focuses on character, structure and specific ways of applying comedy tools to text.
Steve Kaplan has worked with some of the film industry’s leading artists and writers. Past students of his have gone on to win 10 Emmys, 1 Oscar and 2 Writer’s Guild of America Awards, among many other awards and nominations. In addition to having taught at UCLA, NYU, Yale and other top universities, Steve Kaplan created the HBO Workspace, the HBO Writers’ Program and was co-founder and Artistic Director of Manhattan Punch Line Theatre.
